An Aussie Farm Experience in the Gold Coast Hinterland
For a real Aussie farm experience, escape to the country and visit a farm in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
“Hands on” experience is encouraged and you’ll be invited to try your hand at milking a cow, feeding baby animals, or riding a horse.
Depending on the season and to round out your farm experience, you can watch sheep dogs brilliantly muster sheep to their master’s call; see nimble stock horses and their equally clever riders round up cattle; and observe first-hand, a sheep shearing demonstration.
You could also have a go at cracking a stockwhip - it’s much harder than it looks!
And after all this activity… enjoy a cup of good old billy tea and freshly made damper, just as our pioneer bush men and women did many years ago.
You’ll find an Aussie farm experience in the Gold Coast Hinterland to be a delightful experience – and kids in particular will enjoy interacting with all the animals.
Other Animal Farms
Crystal Creek Miniatures is not a farm per se, and thus does not offer the typical Aussie farm activities. However, it does have more than 100 cute and engaging miniature animals, which include horses, cattle, and donkeys.
Entry cost is $15 adults & $10 kids (no credit card facilities available), and tour times do vary, so contact them on 02-6679 1532 beforehand.
They’re open Fri-Mon except in school holidays, when they’re open every day. You’ll find them on Crystal Creek Road, Crystal Creek. Map Ref: TBA.
The Rosemount Alpaca Stud & Barn has ~ 40 alpacas, including a free display pen where visitors can pat an alpaca and feel its fine, silky coat. The farm has a café where visitors can enjoy a devonshire tea, as well as a gallery with a wide range of alpaca products and other Australian arts/crafts.
You’ll find them at Lot 5, Lamington National Park Road, Via Canungra, contact 07-5544 0106. Map Ref: TBA.
And several farm tours include other Aussie experiences which, although not exactly part of Aussie farm life, are a whole lot of fun!
These include hay rides, learning the ancient art of boomerang throwing, and viewing native Australian animals such as koalas, kangaroos and emus.
Some Gold Coast farms offer the even more unique activities of clay pigeon shooting; or riding a coal-fired steam train; and a number of them provide entertainment in the form of country music, Aussie folk songs, or bush dancing.
Half-day tours are available in the morning or the afternoon and typically include a delicious BBQ lunch … or you can choose an evening tour which includes dinner and entertainment.
* Note: some farms require that evening tours be pre-arranged for groups, with minimum numbers required.
Given the busy activity of everyday life on a farm, there will generally be a set timetable for tours.
It’s therefore advisable to check with tour operators and plan your arrival, and not just turn up at any hour of the day.
A visit to an Aussie farm in the Gold Coast Hinterland has something for everyone and is a unique experience you?ll never forget!
And if you’d like to extend your Aussie farm encounter, and enjoy the fresh air and open space, why not consider an overnight ‘farmstay’ experience?
Accommodation may cater from 2 to 200 people, ranging from overnight to several days, with conference facilities available. Refer to our farmstay accommodation section for further details.
