Gold Coast Accommodation:
Surfers Paradise Apartments
Pricing of Surfers Paradise apartments and other Gold Coast accommodation is a mystery at times, as there can be such huge price variety between properties.
The answer lies in the fact that there is such high competition: just over 40% of all Gold Coast accommodation is located in Surfers Paradise, and properties regularly offer discounted accommodation at offpeak times to attract visitors.
To illustrate, a recent online search compared two apartments in Surfers Paradise that were both rated as 3 STAR accommodation: one was priced at $82 per night, and the other at $150 per night!
Clearly, it pays to do your accommodation research and comparisons before booking - it can literally save you several hundred dollars.
High-rise Apartments: When you do search and book Surfers Paradise apartments, no matter what the price, it's likely your choice will be a high-rise building.
There are more than 250 high-rise buildings stretching along the Gold Coast coastal strip, many overlooking the beach, or with ocean views. The high-rises are concentrated in Surfers Paradise, followed by Main Beach and Broadbeach.
High-rise buildings provide a large percentage of Gold Coast accommodation for holiday visitors.
The first high-rise on the Gold Coast, the Kinkabool, was completed in Surfers Paradise in 1959, and was 27 metres high (89 feet). Described at the time as a '10 storied giant', the Kinkabool is considerably dwarfed by the buildings that surround it today – most noticeably by the impressive Q1 tower that stands 230 metres high (755 feet), with 78 storeys.
Other high-rises followed in the 1960s, with the pace of development picking up in the 1970s.
The 1980s saw a boom in Japanese investment, and buildings continued to soar - both literally and metaphorically – creating the Gold Coast's iconic high-rise skyline.
Such is the magnetic attraction of the Gold Coast to developers and investors, that construction of high-rise buildings has continued in to the new millenium.
Given each new high-rise incorporates the latest in construction technology and building design, high-rise buildings completed in the last few years are not only innovative and aesthetically stunning, but encapsulate luxury Gold Coast accommodation at its best.
